The Criticism Trap – Catch’Em Being Good! Part 3 of a series - The Criticism Trap Last time we talked about The Criticism Trap and what you can do. Here is one more key ingredient to successfully overcoming the Criticism Trap – Catch’Em Being Good! That’s right – catch your student or child on task, concentrating, or behaving well… and praise them for it! Always remember to reward good behavior and good effort! Try This! How many different praise statements do you think you use in a day? Humans can write between 25-35 word per minute. Try writing praise statements from the list below for one minute. Count each word as soon as you have completed the one-minute timing. If you have fewer than 25 words, you do not have a fluent praise repertoire. To get started, use the list below to add praises to your list. Work in this task for five minutes per day until you can write 25-30 praises in one minute. Use you new praises to reward your children with attention. Don’t Wait for Bad Behavior! It is always best to describe the correct behaviour with the praise statement.e.g. Good job sounding out that word. Excellent work reading that sentence! Also, add your child or student’s name, when appropriate, to reinforce the connection. Remember, catch’em being good! List for Teachers Yes, you got that right.
